Amiga HistorySadly, I didn't have an Amiga growing up. Which is why I could always be found around at a friend's house playing theirs. Marvelling at the rich copper backgrounds, the fast sprites, the awesome sampled music and sounds which the competition was sadly lacking. It was very clear that the Amiga was a very special machine. I acquired an A1200 a few years back, found myself in the company of the UK's biggest Amiga enthusiast group, and the rest is history!
What Does The Hobby Mean To Me?The nostalgia has never really worn off for me. It only takes the Shadow of the Beast intro screen and music to transport me back to a wonderful time where anything seemed possible. I've enjoyed picking up some of the games of the past, with their lovely box art and in-depth manuals. But also enthusiastic about new games and demos being created for the platform. The Amiga ecoscene is massively revived in recent years, and that's fantastic.
ProjectsI go by username "NickLuvsRetro" as I have a deep love of many vintage machines and consoles. However, in recent years I've discovered the joy of assembly programming and written a few 3D engines, mostly inspired by Amiga games like Midwinter, Interphase and Cybercon III. My first efforts were mostly in ARM (Archimedes), so I'm now investigating writing some similar things for the 68k and taking advantage of the Amiga 1200 hardware where possible. The technology of the past may seem incredibly limiting, but it's often in this environment we enjoy the greatest creativity and really get to test our abilities to the limit.
